Just over a week since the election, the National Election Committee has released official preliminary results showing 8.2 million votes around the country, including 440,154 invalid votes.

The results were released on the NEC’s main website Tuesday morning as a PDF showing provincial totals.

The preliminary results contain about 150,000 more votes than the last update.

The results remain largely the same, with the ruling Cambodian People’s Party winning a 78% share of total votes (82% of valid votes), ranging from 71% in Kampong Thom to 88% in Pursat.

Funcinpec came second, with 716,490 votes and 8.7% of the total, and is slated to win five National Assembly seats, one each in Phnom Penh, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Kandal and Prey Veng.

The NEC is currently fielding any complaints of the election, after which it will release the final results.

Since the election, Prime Minister Hun Sen has announced he is stepping away from the job to become Senate president, with his son Hun Manet on course to be sworn in as prime minister on August 22.

It is part of a series of planned successions from incumbents to their children, so far with National Bank governor Chea Chanto handing over the central bank governorship to his daughter Chea Serey. More sweeping changes are expected in the coming weeks.
