King Addresses National Assembly, Swearing-In This Afternoon

King Norodom Sihamoni addressed 125 members of the National Assembly this morning, who will be sworn in to office on Monday afternoon.

The king presided over a session of the National Assembly Monday morning, where he said he expected the new government to fulfill its promises to the people. Prime Minister-designate Hun Manet was seated in the front row alongside his father and CPP senior leaders Heng Samrin, Sar Kheng and Men Sam An.

All the incoming lawmakers and the king then took a ceremonial photo outside the National Assembly, dressed in official lawmaker attire. Guests, dignitaries and ambassadors from the U.S., U.K. and China were present at the event.

The National Assembly also released a list of lawmakers that would sit in the lower house once sworn in. Look through Kamnotra’s Lawmakers 2023 list to see who is your new lawmaker and read short biographies on them.

The new CPP government will prove its majority in a vote Tuesday, along with approval of a new cabinet that is set to usher in a generational shift as Cambodian People’s Party scions take over from the old guard.
