Cambodian People’s Party president Hun Sen completed his succession plans with Hun Manet being voted the prime minister of the new government.
Update | 2:45 pm
Hours after losing the prime minister’s position, Kandal lawmaker Hun Sen was appointed the president of the Supreme Privy Council to the King. King Norodom Sihamoni signed the document on August 22, with Hun Sen taking over from the late Norodom Ranariddh who was the previous head of the council.
Heng Samrin, who also lost his job as National Assembly president, was appointed as an honorary president to the same council. Three former deputy prime ministers — Sar Kheng, Men Sam An and Tea Banh — were also appointed advisers to the king in a separate document.
The Supreme Privy Council to the King is an advisory council and different from the Royal Council of the Throne, which is tasked with selecting the new monarch.
