Munty, Namhong Join CPP Seniors on Privy Council

Former Supreme Court president Dith Munty and former Foreign Minister Hor Namhong joined Hun Sen and others on the Supreme Privy Council to the king to be advisers to the monarch.

The government released two documents on September 4, 2023, appointing Munty and Namhong to the position. They will join Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, Sar Kheng and Men Sam An on the Privy Council.

Munty was a longtime justice of the Supreme Court, member of the elite permanent committee of the Cambodian People’s Party, and father of Agriculture Minister Dith Tina.

Namhong was foreign minister for 18 years till 2016 and then promoted to the position of deputy prime minister, which he relinquished in August. His son Hor Nambora is also a diplomat and famously interrupted a press conference involving former CNRP vice president Mu Sochua in Indonesia.

Kandal lawmaker Hun Sen was appointed the president of the Privy Council on August 22 and former National Assembly president Heng Samrin was made honorary president of the same body. Former deputy prime ministers Sar Kheng and Men Sam An were made advisers to the king on the same council.
