Three Royal Family Members Get Higher Titles

The king promoted three royal family members from the title of neak angk mcheas to preah angk mcheas, or from his and her highness to his and her royal highness.

The decision, dated October 1, was issued as part of the Royal Gazette published by the Council of Ministers in May.

The three royal family members to receive the higher titles were Prince Norodom Veakchearavouth, Princess Norodom Pekina and Princess Norodom Yuveakdevi, all children of the late Norodom Yuvaneath.

Norodom Yuvaneath is the oldest son of late King Norodom Sihanouk and the older half-brother of the current King Norodom Sihamoni.

Norodom Yuvaneath died in the U.S. in 2021 at the age of 77. He had the title sdech krom luong from when he was appointed a privy counselor to the king in 1993 with a rank equivalent to deputy prime minister.

He was posthumously granted an honorary title in a Royal Gazette document from July last year.
