The government has reclassified 30 hectares of Kep National Park to lease to Choeung Sokuntheavy, the daughter of Boeng Kak tycoon Choeung Sopheap and Senator Lao Meng Khin.

According to a sub-decree dated November 25,2022 and published online by the Council of Ministers on April 24, 2023, Prime Minister Hun Sen decided to reclassify the public property in Kep city’s Prey Thom commune for Choeung Sokuntheavy’s company One More to develop as an ecotourism site.

Choeung Sokuntheavy, who was granted an oknha title in 2021, is also behind Vital water and Mee Chiet noodles, and was also granted 70 hectares in Mondulkiri’s Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary and 222 hectares in Kampong Speu’s Kirirom National Park for ecotourism.

Her mother, Choeung Sopheap, also known as Yeay Phu, is vice president of the Cambodian Red Cross and director of Pheapimex, Shukaku and the Sihanoukville special economic zone.

In 2000, Pheapimex was granted a 315,000-hectare economic land concession in Pursat and Kampong Chhnang provinces. Shukaku, meanwhile, was given the rights to develop Boeng Kak in central Phnom Penh in 2007, whereby it filled in the lake and violently evicted residents on its edge.
