{"id":4251,"date":"2023-08-16T15:52:06","date_gmt":"2023-08-16T08:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kamnotra.io\/en\/?p=4251"},"modified":"2023-09-25T15:55:15","modified_gmt":"2023-09-25T08:55:15","slug":"sugar-plantation-protesters-in-koh-kong-sentenced-to-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kamnotra.io\/en\/2023\/08\/sugar-plantation-protesters-in-koh-kong-sentenced-to-jail\/","title":{"rendered":"Sugar Plantation Protesters in Koh Kong Sentenced to Jail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Koh Kong court sentenced 10 land activists to a year\u2019s imprisonment and ordered them to compensate tycoon Heng Huy $10,000 for malicious denunciation and incitement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<knLandMap conflict=\"Heng Huy Sugar Disputes\" class=\"knRight\"><\/knLandMap>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.licadho-cambodia.org\/flashnews.php?perm=340\">According to human rights group Licadho<\/a>, one of the activists received a suspended sentence, while three others are already in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Licadho said the sentencing on Tuesday afternoon (August 15) came amid a series of arrest warrants and court convictions against Koh Kong land activists in recent weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It named the 10 people convicted on Thursday as Chhan Chheurn, Det Huor, Erb Vy, Erp Teung, Heng Chey, Inn Thou, Kert Nov, Kong Men, Puo Houn and Sok Chey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They received one year in prison each and were together ordered to pay Heng Huy 40 million riel for malicious denunciation and incitement to disturb social security, Licadho said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Det Huor, Heng Chey and Sok Chey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rfa.org\/khmer\/news\/land\/koh-kong-provincial-court-sentences-10-land-activists-one-yesr-in-prison-for-incitement-08152023142708.html\">were arrested on June 29<\/a> when they traveled to Phnom Penh to file a petition. Erb Vy received a fully suspended sentence.
