{"id":3447,"date":"2023-07-28T13:44:40","date_gmt":"2023-07-28T06:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kamnotra.io\/en\/?p=3447"},"modified":"2023-07-28T13:44:41","modified_gmt":"2023-07-28T06:44:41","slug":"former-opposition-star-thy-sovantha-made-deputy-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kamnotra.io\/en\/2023\/07\/former-opposition-star-thy-sovantha-made-deputy-governor\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Opposition Star Thy Sovantha Made Deputy Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Thy Sovantha, a former opposition youth activist prominent during the 2013 national election campaign, was made a deputy governor of Kandal province\u2019s new Arey Ksat city, according to a government document circulated by news media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a government <a href=\"https:\/\/kamnotra.io\/Docs\/Viewer.html#2023-07-32\">sub-decree dated January 5, 2023<\/a>, released in book 7 of the Royal Gazette on July 10, the government specified the size of the boards of governors for recently created cities and districts, without yet appointing its members: Kandal\u2019s Arey Ksat and Sampov Poun, which were turned into cities from communes; Kampong Speu\u2019s Oudong Maechey city and Samakki Monichey district, split from Oudong district; and the new O\u2019Krieng Senchey district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thy Sovantha was later appointed as Arey Ksat deputy governor among seven members of the city\u2019s board of governors in an <a href=\"https:\/\/eacnews.asia\/home\/details\/22116\">Interior Ministry prakas dated April 7, 2023<\/a> and signed by Interior Minister Sar Kheng, according to an article by EAC News. The document has not yet been released in the Royal Gazette.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Kampong Cham province, Thy Sovantha rose to national fame in 2013 at the age of 18 as she campaigned for the now-outlawed opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party, saying she wanted to be a part of changing the country\u2019s leaders.
